About David Smith

David Smith was born in Davidson County in 1958 and attended public schools here, graduating from Madison High School in 1976. He attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville before assisting in the management of successful family business, which remains in operation.

In 1990, his friendly demeanor, work ethic and ability to talk with people attracted the attention of Mayor Bill Boner , who offered him a position as a constituent liaison officer in the mayor's office. While there, David also was called on to work on issues in the local courts system. That interest in the judicial system provided an entree to his next position, serving 1991-1995 as a Probate Court officer under the late Judge Jim Everett. Judge Everett once described him to friends as "the ultimate court officer, in training for the judge's job" because he was intent on learning everything about court procedures.

He continued under then-Circuit Court Judge Frank Clement, now a member of the Tennessee Court of Appeals, until 1998, when General Sessions Judge Casey Moreland , a long-time friend, tapped him for his staff, where he still works. In 2006, David also became a licensed real estate agent, affiliated with Marshall Real Estate and Investment Services in Goodlettsville.

David and his wife, the former Julianne Burgess, live in the Union Hill area of Goodlettsville. They are members of Goodlettsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He has two sons, Dustin and Matthew. Dustin and wife Kimberly have a son, Davis, and daughter, Lily.
